TIME OUT
How often do you sit in a quiet space, totally undisturbed and switch your mind off to everything? I am guessing your answer is almost never. The phone is likely to ring, someone calls you in need of a response, you feel guilty for doing absolutely nothing, you can’t give up the time or your mind is racing with a million and one thoughts?
Total relaxation and clearing of the mind is a skill that actually needs to be learned. Yes, we can take a walk, sit by the sea or the pool, watch TV or read a book, all of which are great to do and have their own benefits but our minds and thoughts are still active. The ability to clear our minds and think of nothing takes practice as does any new challenge. The rewards are well worth the effort.
STRESS AND ITS EFFECTS
I have listed below some of the common symptoms of living with stress. How many do you experience?
Muscle tension and pain in joints.
Tension or migraine headaches.
An inability to concentrate or think clearly.
Digestive problems.
Interrupted sleep.
Breathing difficulties.
Cardiovascular problems.
Allergic reactions.
Physical fatigue.
Nervous Exhaustion.
The list goes on and on proving how detrimental stress is to our overall health and wellbeing.
This goes some way to prove just how important relaxation is. Taking time out to relax allows your body to metabolize and rebalance the stress hormones, helping to relieve some of those negative symptoms. It lowers our blood pressure, promotes mental and emotional well-being and frees our mind for greater levels of creative thinking, allowing us to see problems from a new perspective. A good, uninterrupted sleep is one of nature’s best stress cures. Taking a long, hot, aromatic bath, listening to soothing music, receiving a massage or meditating are other ways to “switch off”.
I see clients every day for a range of treatments but one comment keeps coming up. “ I wish I could stay here for longer, I feel so calm and relaxed”. As well as coming for treatments, my clients often feel comfortable enough to share their worries. It is so good to unburden yourself, even if just for a short time.
My interest in the benefits of relaxation and holistic therapies has grown and grown over the last year as I watch more and more of my clients leave me with a look of total peace and relaxation.
I have decided to launch something new by way of encouraging people to take time out and relax. I have learned to totally clear my mind and take “time out” every day and the improvement to my emotional well-being has been a revelation. So much so that I want everyone to feel it! Not everyone wants to have a treatment so I am making the Beauty Lounge available as quite simply a place to come and lay your head, listen to the soothing music, watch the flickering candlelight and shut out the world for a while. If you need some guidance on ways to totally relax and clear the mind I can help. If you would like a gentle foot or head massage to help you on your way, I can provide that too.
How about during your lunch break or at the end of work, when the children are at school or nursery, when life is getting you down, when you just have to get out of the house or just because you want to and you can? Whatever your reasons, remember that we all deserve some “time out”. It makes us stronger, calmer, happier and ready to face the next thing that life may throw at us.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your way to a state of total peace and relaxation.
